Ossipee Public Library is featuring the work of area artist Cheryl Shanahan for the month of December. Ms. Shanahan is an acrylic painter who splits her year between New Hampshire’s Lakes Region and Central Virginia. New Hampshire paintings showcase the area’s natural beauty she finds in waterscapes, skyscapes, and landscapes.
Her current exhibit is entitled: At the Lake: Winter Skies. About these painting, the artist said,”
This series is based on photographs I’ve taken over the years. All but one were taken in Winter Harbor. I digitally abstracted the reference photos to distill the moments to their colorful essence. All canvases were underpainted with their dominant hue to build depth, and then a wide range of values (darks and lights) were applied to build depth and contrast. Color theory is on display here: purples pushed up against orange and coral and yellow really make the scene shimmer and vibrate, as color wheel opposites bring out the best in each other.”
Cheryl is the incoming President of the Governor Wentworth Arts Council, Crossroads Art Center, and a member of the National Oil and Acrylic Painters’ Society (NOAPS) and the Women’s Caucus for Art (WCA). She enjoys participating in group and solo exhibits and regional competitions. She also accepts commission requests.
