The Secretary’s report for the June 6, 2017 meeting was read and accepted. John motioned, Judy seconded. The minutes for the special meeting July 10, 2017 were read and accepted. John motioned, Denise seconded.
The Treasurer’s report was reviewed and accepted. Jane motioned, John seconded. Judy provided statements for month end for June and July, but had difficulty with a printer. After discussion, Maria was tasked with contacting Michael if this problem continues. Elaine had checked with QuickBooks and the $540 fee this year was not changed. This cost may be due to the fact that 3 different people have access and Elaine can print checks.
The Library Director’s report was presented by Maria. The report was accepted. John motioned, Jane seconded. The new computers are all installed. Two new air conditioners paid for by the Friends of OPL are also in place and working well. The replacement picture window has been installed by Granite State Glass and they are waiting for parts to complete repairs to the meeting room window. The summer reading program has been well attended this year with 33 people this week. There were 2 speakers at earlier sessions, Sandi from Lakes Region Humane Society brought 2 dogs and discussed building a better world for animals. Brad talked about building better roads. One week children built using various materials, Legos, Tinker Toys, etc. and another week they decorated bird houses made out of milk cartons. Squam Lakes Science Center made a presentation of “The Truth about Bats: And they even brought a bat. Artwork on display in the meeting room for July and August is by local artists, Rachel Ward, Pat Jones, Dawn Marion and Judy Felder. Maria drafted wording for the Joan O’Hara plaque. “ In Appreciation of Kindness, Generosity, and Selflessness Library repairs to the water damaged ceilings and walls as well ten new computers were made possible by a generous donation from Joan O’Hara a loving Friend and caring Trustee of the Ossipee Public Library.” Maria reminded us that it is time to start thinking about next year’s budget. We are on target with this year’s budget having spent about half the appropriated funds. Maria had a request from Heeth Grantham of Uglyfish Media about filming in the Library as he does research on a project “Rogue Mysteries”. Maria also expressed safety concerns about the end panels missing from three shelving units. These are not weight bearing, but for stability of the shelves. Maria will check further with Demco as to differences in panels they offer, cost of hardware and shipping. She will also check with Sean McManus to see if he can make them, time frame required and cost.
We renewed discussion of replacements for the carpeting, carpeting VS tile squares. We toured the library to see what areas were in most need of attention should we opt to do this is sections. Maria will contact Heckman’s in Wolfeboro to see if a representative can attend our September meeting and offer suggestions. Jane reported that she has been observing floors and the tiles look like carpeting. As the current carpet was installed in 1990 we would hope to replace it with something approaching that life expectancy.
The meeting was adjourned at 1:30PM
Respectively submitted, Jane ter Kuile, Secretary.
